Pho Bistro

I am Vietnamese and surprisingly I haven't blogged about Vietnamese food yet so thought I would change that.

Pho Bistro serves up a mixture of Vietnamese and Thai food.

I normally go to the train one aka Xe Lua or another one along Keele St. Sorry I don't know the name of it since it's in Vietnamese so will try to look at it the next time I go there.

My boyfriend brought me to Pho Bistro since he said the pho was pretty good. Also it's a nice change from the regular pho places that we go to.

We went here twice in a row so this post will be combining both trips.

I love my avocado milkshake and simply just have to order that every time I'm at a pho place. It's so creamy and refreshing it just hits the spot every time. Also I love the taste of avocados as well.

Brunch @ Stockyards

Once again, it's just all hype.

I went to Stockyards last year for the sandwiches and ribs and I found it was just mediocre.

This time I returned for brunch since the menu was enticing coupled with the great reviews I figured why not.

Last Sunday we arrived around 12:30 and the place was jammed packed. Not only diners but the takeout line was crazy too. The place is really tiny so it was kinda claustrophobic standing inside so we gave our name and waited outside. Fifteen minutes later, we finally got a seat.

We knew what we wanted so we placed our order immediately after our waitress seated us. We were starving and it didn't help sitting directly in front of where all the food was prepared. Huge tease:(

We didn't get our food till at least 45 minutes later. That's how insane it was.

The smoked meat hash came with deep fried poached eggs. Soooooo so bland. If you want smoked meat hash I highly recommend Caplansky's. Now that is what you call smoked meat hash. This was just a pile of flavorless meat with even more tasteless poached eggs. Complete fail here.

Astoria Shish Kebob House

After rock climbing, we were famished. Well I was hungry for sure. Since I didn't know the area very well Susan recommended Astoria so off we drove to Greektown.

Susan took care of the ordering and at first I thought it was too little but then I was proved wrong. There was definitely more than enough food to feed all four of us.

First off was the moussaka. My first time trying this was at Loui's Kouzina. It was so yummy. Here it was made differently. The components were similar with ground beef, eggplant, potatoes and bechamel sauce however, the flavoring was completely different. Nonetheless it was simply delicious.

Here we have the pork souvlaki and Santorini feast.

The pork meat was succulent and juicy. As for the seafood feast I wasn't really a big fan of it. The salmon was a bit dry. The rest of the items were mediocre.

We also had 3 huge bowls of salad as well sadly, we were only able to clean out 2 bowls.

Portions were generous, the meat dishes were tasty and the prices were fair.

Great recommendation Sue. Next time I want to try the gyros.

Burger's Priest

OMG so worth the hype.

Finally I get my hands on one of the most talked bout burgers in the city. I can see why all the rave about The Burger's Priest. It's really really and I mean REALLY good.

Every time I think bout heading there I keep forgetting they are closed on Sundays.

I rarely head this far east so one day since I was nearby I got my coworker to go with me since he lives in the area. Surprisingly, even he never been there either and he lives literally 5 minutes away.

Here is the regular menu. There's also a secret menu as well which wasn't displayed hence "secret" but it is available if you know the name of the burger you want. Since I was going rock climbing right after I couldn't eat too much (didn't want to show all the climbers what I ate once I reached the top lol don't think that would be a pretty sight) so I stuck with the regular menu.

I got the priest since @chopstickhero highly recommended it. Man he was rite. It was beefy-licious. The priest is a combination of 2 burgers, the cheeseburger and the option. The option consists of 2 large portobello mushrooms filled with cheese then covered in some sort of batter and then deep fried. It was un-FREAKIN-believable. I could feel my heart momentarily stop to savor the burger and all it's beefy goodness. It was juicy and bursting with cheesy meaty flavor. Dang I want a burger now.

I have to return and try one of the items from the secret menu. Wonder if it will really make my heart stop lol. I hear the ones on the secret menu are twice the size of the regular burgers and I thought the priest was already big enough.

Rahier

More desserts.

After finishing our snack at Patisserie La Cigogne, just a few stores down was Rahier. I couldn't help myself I had to stop in. I mean I am rarely in this area so I had to give it a try.

I got the apple streudel with some sort of vanilla cream filling. It was delish.

This time I was able to snag myself a macaron without having to buy a package unlike Cigogne. I got the pistachio macaron and an almond cookie with pistachio cream. Both were a delight.

I would definitely return again. I have to try out one of their cakes. Heard so much good reviews I'm kinda sad that I wasn't even able to buy one single piece. Oh well, maybe on my next trip I can eat more than one cake hehe;)

Patisserie La Cigogne

Here's a quick post.

After some serious shoe shopping, I decided to take my friend to Patisserie La Cigogne.

This is the first thing you see when you enter, a whole array of pretty lil cakes. I was drooling at the display. My friend tells me we have to eat real food first before buying cake. Fiiiine I say.

Loui's Kouzina...Our Own lil Food Fest

My last trip at Loui's Kouzina was for brunch.

This time I came for dinner.

Since I had a little altercation in the parking lot at the event Night It Up, me and my boyfriend decided to skip the food event and have our own food fest at Loui's Kouzina. Hey no problems finding parking here at least. I hate crowds don't know why I even tried to go to that crazy event. It was insane!!!

Ok enough of my ranting back to the food.

Guu Sakabar

Guu is Guud. If you don't know what Guu is then you must be living in a cave.

My first Guu experience was at Guu Izakaya along Church. That was the first restaurant I have ever waited in line for. One hour to be exact but it was so worth the wait.

Now another Guu restaurant opened up just a few months ago, Guu Sakabar. Surprisingly, this time I didn't even have to wait in line at all. Yayyy!

This location has 2 dining areas. One area is similar to the other location where there are communal tables and seating by the bar. The other area looked like you are sitting on the floor but there's a space in the ground to dangle your legs so technically you're not really sitting on the floor. Note you have to remove your shoes before entering this area so be sure your feet don't smell otherwise it's just unpleasant for those around you. Luckily I didn't have that issue.

Here was the specials for the day.

A+ @ School but only on the Baked Goods

I give it an A+. Only on the baked goods though.

Me and my 3 girlfriends went for dinner at School. I was looking forward to trying out School since I read so many good reviews and saw a lot of tweets referring to this place.

Our reservation was for 6:30pm. When we arrived, the place was empty. The reason being was everyone was hanging out on the patio and for good reason too. It was a very hot and humid day. Bad part was it was hot and humid inside the restaurant as well. No air conditioner at all. I was already unhappy. I need my AC. Oh well out on the patio we went.

Mad Italian

Gelato. Don't think I've ever really had bad gelato so not much to say except perfect on a hot humid day.

I got a small scoop of watermelon and blue angel gelato from Mad Italian located in Little Italy. The angel tasted like cotton candy. It was delish and the watermelon was bursting with melon flavor.

Warning: This location does NOT have air conditioner so do not go if it's a hot humid day. I learned it the hard way:(

Burrito Boyz

After Smoke's Poutinerie, my friend wanted me to try the haddock burrito at Burrito Boyz since it was located right below.

We decided to shared a small burrito. Some small. It was enormous. Thank god my friend suggested that we split one. I was already kinda full from the poutine but since we were there I might as well give it a try. On its own, I found the haddock to be bland but once you take a bite of the burrito as a whole, it was yummy.

Humongous portion for a small burrito it actually filled up both of us. I can see why this is one of the top places for cheap eats.

Mi Ne

My mommy called me and said she was bored. Since I was hungry I ended up taking her out for dinner at Mi Ne.

I ordered seaweed salad for my mom since she loves seaweed salad.

I got the maki set C with the 8 piece dynamite roll and 8 piece spider roll. I also ordered 2 other rolls. I was going to order more but the waitress stopped me and said that was already more than enough. She was right. In fact it was too much. We ended up doggie bagging a quarter of it.

When the sushi arrived, I couldn't help smiling from ear to ear. It was so pretty and colorful. I took so many pictures that my mom kinda got impatient and was ready to dig in with her chopsticks.

Mongolian Grill

Here is a quick post.

I went to this buffet for lunch with some coworkers. The concept is simple. Choose your meat, veggies, noodles and sauces. Then head over to the grill where it is all stir fried on a 600F grill by 2 cooks.

Since we had a voucher, me and my coworker went for lunch at Tekka.

The black dragon roll was my fave. Gotta luv my BBQ eel:)
