I went to the Stockyards Smokehouse & Larder over the weekend.
I seen a review on the internet so decided I have to try it out since there were so many good reviews.
At first me and my friend wanted to try the beef brisket sandwich but sadly it was all sold out. We got there fifteen minutes before dinner even started. Don't understand how it can be all gone already when dinner wasn't even opened yet. Man it must be good so we were pretty disappointed since we couldn't get that sandwich.
We decided to order the special of the day which was the pastrami sandwich. Apparently they used to have this on their menu regularly but the waitress told us since they couldn't keep up with the high demand they had to remove it from the regular menu and offer it as a special instead. It was good but a bit dry. I think the pastrami at Centre Street Deli is way better. It's much more tender and full of flavor.
Here is the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with apple and hickory smoked pork shoulder topped with cole slaw. Once again the meat wasn't really tender and it was a bit dry. A bit of a disappointment here.
Since there was a constant flow of people ordering takeout of the rib and chicken we decided to go along and order half a rack of ribs to take home to see what all the fuss was about. The rib and smoked chicken is only available for dinner on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. The meat is slow smoked over apple and hickory wood.
Along with the long lineup and availability of the meat, we decided to purchase the ribs because there was a guy sitting next to us making smacking noises while eating his ribs and constantly licking his fingers. I had to buy it and see how finger licking good it was.
Honestly it was good but could use a bit more seasoning.
Also saw that the buttermilk marinated fried chicken was a popular choice as well.
I felt like grabbing a piece each time the cook threw some chicken on a platter right in front of me.
In the end, the sandwiches were't really that great to me. The rib was good but not good enough for me to make a second trip. The only thing I wished I tried was the fried chicken. If I'm ever in the area again I wouldn't mind trying that out.
TOTAL BILL $55...MAY EAT AGAIN?!

This place was seriously packed when we came. Good thing we were there before the rush! The wings and ribs definitely seemed to be the popular dishes at this local joint. Kudos to you Karen for not grabbing the wings in the baskets when they were right in front of you! =P (mind you they were other people's orders but you could have easily taken 1 without anyone noticing ;) haha
All in all, it was a good meal - but Scwartz Smoked Meat Sandwiches in Montreal is hands down still my favourite sandwich! I"ll have to try this central deli place you speak of next time *drool*
lol it's centre street deli:P
