A+ @ School but only on the Baked Goods

I give it an A+. Only on the baked goods though.

Me and my 3 girlfriends went for dinner at School. I was looking forward to trying out School since I read so many good reviews and saw a lot of tweets referring to this place.

Our reservation was for 6:30pm. When we arrived, the place was empty. The reason being was everyone was hanging out on the patio and for good reason too. It was a very hot and humid day. Bad part was it was hot and humid inside the restaurant as well. No air conditioner at all. I was already unhappy. I need my AC. Oh well out on the patio we went.

Ok meat lovers, here is the lesson of the day. Can you name all the cuts of beef without looking at this diagram?

Since we were dying from the heat we thought we would share a sangria.

Think cause I wouldn't return the menu to the waitress and was using it as a fan, the waitress pitied us and gave us complimentary blueberry almond orange muffins. It was moist and bursting with flavor. At least that made me forget about the scorching heat for a bit.

First off was the watermelon quinoa salad with jimaca, arugula and toasted peanuts in a smoked chili vinaigrette. It was refreshing but $12 for this was so not worth it. I didn't taste anything interesting nor spectacular to justify for the high pricing. It's just watermelon. It was sweet at least but c'mon $12??? I could've bought 3 whole watermelons for that price. Also I don't even think I tasted the vinaigrette either.

Now this starter was worth the money. Corn crusted calamari with spiced potato mayo. Crispy crunchy batter while the calamari was cooked perfectly on the inside. It definitely scored high in our books. A+

Now just to let you know I originally wanted to try the lobster dish but it was not available that night which was kinda disappointing since nothing else caught my eye. I didn't feel like digging my hands into a burger either in that hot sticky weather. So we all decided to order fish fish fish. We thought it would be ok but man did I get sick of fish.

First fish dish of the night was the Indian tandoor style halibut with tomato-lemongrass sauce, rapini and spinach stir fry, and buttered potatoes. My friends enjoyed this dish however, I wasn't too fond of the sauce.

Second dish was the fish tacos with grilled mahi mahi, guacamole, pineapple-mango salsa served on a bed of greens. Once again the fish was flaky yet it was a bit boring to me. The presentation certainly got me excited sadly, the flavor just didn't wow me. It was a bit of a letdown. Kinda like I'm excited to get my ice cream only to find that the only flavor available was vanilla. Booooring.

We noticed a lot of the other patrons had the English fish & chips so I couldn't wait to try it out.

It was one fat piece of halibut. It looked like a fat guy just lying on the beach and couldn't get up hehe. It was yummy. Fried golden brown on the outside and flaky pieces of fish on the inside.

Now this I was looking forward to the whole night, cinnamon churros with ginger caramel and vanilla ice cream. Churros was scrumptious. I give it A++.

The food I found was mediocre however, the baked goods were divine. I would love to return and try out their brunch but definitely not coming on a day that's 30+ degrees hot. Also our waitress was really friendly. I'm so happy she gave us those yummy muffins to munch on while we waited for our food. If not for those muffins I don't think I would want to even return to try out the brunch.
