Ding Tai Fong

I am soooo behind on my blogging so will try to remember as much as I can about my experience here.

I went to Ding Tai Fong sometime in mid August. Sand recommended the place to me so we decided to go there on a Saturday morning.

Dang the place was packed when we arrived. Then again all dim sum places are always packed on a Saturday morning. This was no regular Chinese dim sum place. It was a Shanghai dim sum restaurant.

Ding Tai is most popular for its xiao long bao which is steamed soup dumplings with pork filling. This was deeeelicious. But you have to eat this with finesse and care. The soup inside the dumpling is boiling hot so do not put the whole thing in your mouth or you will get burned. Don't know how Sue's dumpling here got torn like that so felt like taking a pix of it hehe. Shows you gotta be gentle when picking up one of these babies.

Here was the pan fried pork dumplings.

Braised beef noodle soup was scrumptious.

Big chunk of tender succulent meat in a very tasty flavorful broth.

Fried sliced rice cake with pickled cabbage and shredded pork. Apparently all their rice cakes and noodles are freshly handmade. You can see them make it at the back of the restaurant. I was hungry and too lazy to maneuver through the crowd so I didn't take a pix of the chefs in the kitchen so definitely go check it out if you ever plan to visit here.

Steamed shrimp and pork siu mai. Who doesn't like siu mai? Especially when the shrimp is enormous like these ones here. Also there's Kristy's lemon tea in the background.

Stewed beef pancake wrap. This was just mediocre for me. Think the beef was a tad on the dry side.

I would definitely return here again. Food was great and the portions were pretty good. Thanks again Sand for the dim sum and awesome recommendation:)

TOTAL BILL $58...EAT HERE NEXT!!!

The regular ones are definitely better than the ones with crab meat. So many places make the wrapper for the dumpling too thick and makes the taste heavy and starchy. People are honestly shocked when they find out what the soup is and where it comes from. The beef noodle soup has a great color and I prefer mine with some tendon as well. Those shui mai looks pretty big with the shrimps on them. The stewed beef pancake wrap is another staple food. I see it at a lot of places but they call it a 'silver roll'. A few other places serves it like peking duck and you can add the toppings yourself.

I would recommend this chinese dumplimg house at Metro Square. They have a great variety of dumplings as well as entrees of northern chinese food. My friends and I would get 4 or 5 baskets. Each basket comes in a dozen or eight depending on the contents and they are a decent price as well. They are located on that small lane that you drive into before entering the inner parking lot. It is a small place so go early since the it will get busier with the cold weather.
