Sukho Thai #2

Beware these are very addicting!!!
OMG there's another Sukho Thai??!!!

Yayyy and finally cause the first location is soooooo tiny. Think it seats about max 20 people. The sister location, Khao San Road isn't much bigger either but one thing they all have in common is that the food is absolutely DELICIOUS, which is the most important thing of all.

Pi Tom's

Since it was a beautiful sunny day we decided to sit in the patio at Pi-Tom's.

For starters we had the skewered chicken satay. The flavor was there but the chicken could've been more juicy and moist.

What a BEAST!!!

Ever seen maple bacon doughnuts like these ones??? So so sooooooo good but so bad for you.

Me, Sue and K went for brunch at Beast. I was so excited since this was on my list to try. One look at the brunch menu online I knew I had to go here one day.

At the bottom of the menu there's a disclaimer saying "beast restaurant uses local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible, from farms in Ontario, unless otherwise noted, everything is made in house". How great is that. Have to appreciate the restaurants that make their own products or at least support local farmers.

The artwork on the wall is quite eccentric which kinda goes with the theme of the restaurant. The food is definitely rich or BEASTLY yet sensual in its presentation and taste. Hmm dunno if that makes sense but you will soon see what I mean.

Burrito Boyz

After Smoke's Poutinerie, my friend wanted me to try the haddock burrito at Burrito Boyz since it was located right below.

We decided to shared a small burrito. Some small. It was enormous. Thank god my friend suggested that we split one. I was already kinda full from the poutine but since we were there I might as well give it a try. On its own, I found the haddock to be bland but once you take a bite of the burrito as a whole, it was yummy.

Humongous portion for a small burrito it actually filled up both of us. I can see why this is one of the top places for cheap eats.

Fire on the East Side. Nothing to say except bland, bland, blaaaaand!

The service was great but wish I could say the same about the meal.

Poutini's

Since I missed Poutini's anniversary where they had their 2 for 1 special, I was determined to make a trip there regardless. Finally got my poutine fix.

With only 6 poutines to choose from my eyes instantly fell on the pulled pork poutine.

finger food such a tease...I was still hungry:(

Afternoon tea.

When I hear those words I think of little old grannies sitting around wearing big hats sipping tea.

Well that wasn't the case here at the Library Bar.

I bought a voucher for afternoon tea at the Fairmont Royal York inside the Library Bar.

When I called to make reservations, the earliest seating available was one month later. Wonder if it was because of the deal or was it really that good? Well it wasn't that great to me.

Forte Bistro

I bought a voucher for Forte Bistro and I was really looking forward to trying this place out. The menu is enough to entice anyone.

The bistro is located on Richmond street but I later discovered there was another entrance as well. From the outside the place looked pretty tiny but remember that saying "Looks can be deceiving" well it certainly applies in this case. The restaurant was huge with very tall ceilings and a whole lot of space.

The layout was of a u-shape. Here on one side was the sushi lounge. It was the other entrance I was mentioning about. I think it faces York street.

Prairie Girl Bakery

After constantly seeing numerous tweets I was anxious to try the cupcakes at Prairie Girl Bakery.

Since I was having dinner downtown I decided to make a quick stop at the cupcake shoppe. I arrived around a quarter after five and was shocked to see that there was only 3 flavors available and very few cupcakes left on the shelf.

I grabbed the remaining chocolate vanilla cupcake, 1 vanilla coconut and 2 red velvet cupcakes. I also got 2 mini red velvet cupcakes since well they were mini so it just looked cute.

The red velvet was divine. Moist, fluffy and full of flavor.

I definitely have to return and try out the remaining flavors. But next time I will go earlier or at least call ahead and see if they can save some cupcakes for me.

Decadent Desserts

Located on the concourse level at the First Canadian Place this dessert place serves up some yummy delectables that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

Decadent Desserts was pretty hard for me to find since I don't know my way around underground. The only information I had was it was located at 100 King Street West. I walked back and forth and tried looking at the map yet just couldn't find this place. I gave up and ended up calling for directions. The person who answered sounded like she was in a hurry and quickly replied that they were located in the Bank of Montreal building. Hmmm very helpful there considering I walked past the bank several times and still did not find it.

Finally I found the place. It was located across from the Longos market. Man it was a journey searching for this tiny place. The things I do for my sweets.

The majority of their sweets are either from Dufflet or La Rocca.

After browsing through the display and wiping off a bit of drool I settled on two items. I couldn't decide if I wanted either the baby truffle cake or the pistachio chocolate crunch.

The baby truffle cake is a flourless chocolate souffle cake layered with creamy chocolate mousse finished with a chocolate ruffle and a dusting of edible gold. The pistachio chocolate crunch is made of milk chocolate truffle and chocolate sponge topped with a layer of pistachio mouse and crisp chocolate pearls. After reading that which would you choose?

I was leaning towards the souffle but since I was told the pistachio was much more lighter I opted for the latter since I was meeting a friend for dinner so I wanted a light snack.

It was luscious. Felt like I was floating on a cloud of sweet airy goodness. The chocolate pearls were a nice crunchy touch. Great treat before dinner. Then again I can eat sweets at any time of the day or night.

Commensal

I tried to be a vegetarian but it just didn't work out.

I bought a voucher for Commensal after reading that it was a buffet that serves vegetarian food. The menu sounded interesting so I thought it would be a nice change for once to be a herbivore. The one thing that was unique about this place was they charge you based on the weight of the food. Perfect for calorie counters. (not that I'm one of them lol think my blog says it all)

Here was my plate of food. There was Seitan bourguignon, Millet pie, steamed broccoli, beet and apple salad, bean salad, pickled cabbage, squash and one other thing I'm not quite sure of. Out of the whole pile of food the only things that were interesting were the beet and apple salad and the bourguignon. The salad was delicious. The sweet apples were a great sidekick to the red beets. The bourguignon had chunks of seitan which almost tasted like meat to me. If you don't know what seitan is it's made from the gluten of wheat. To vegetarians, this is their meat. For more info on seitan click here.

My friend seemed to have only focused on the salad station. The other stations didn't really appealed to her. Let's just say she wasn't as thrilled with her food either. (Sorry Kristy I will make it up to you)

For dessert she had the brownie which was extremely dry. I just sampled a tiny bit and even from that I was able to taste how unappetizing it was. However, my soya cake was absolutely delicious. Finally a dessert I can eat without feeling guilty. Then again not like I ever did feel that way hehe. I love my sweets.

After all the food we got we still had a few bucks to spend on but we didn't want anymore food. Not that we were full it's just nothing appealed to us. Instead we both got a bottled sparkling water that was flavored with pomegranate and elderflower. I have no clue what elderflower was but the drink was refreshing.

If you do want to give this place a try there are two deals available. On Mondays students receive 50% off. Also there's a similar deal for seniors except it's only applicable on Tuesdays.

Personally I will never return again even with the deal. I think the best vegetarian food is Korean food. Most of their side dishes are meat-free and they are much more tastier to eat.

Goodies from the One of a Kind Show

My sister-in-law was helping out a friend at the One of a Kind show. Lucky for me she was able to get me in for free. Woohoo!!!

It was my first time at the show so I was excited to see what goodies I would find.

I zoomed through the entire room in half an hour. Let's just say nothing really caught my eye except for aisles C and D or was it B and C. Either way it's the aisles that sells food hehe.

I got 6 macarons for $10 from Sweet Definition. That was cheap. The flavors I got were passionfruit, coconut, chocolate raspberry, pistachio and a few other flavors I can't seem to remember. It was yummy.

They also had cupcakes as well.

I also got a bag of Demerara butter crunch white chocolate and almond from Milsean. One bag was $10 or 3 for $24. These were truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Here is chocolate almond brittle from Brook's Delectable Chocolates. Sorry the picture is blurry should've taken a picture of it when I ate it but sadly I forgot. It was $5 for a small bag. I love brittle and this definitely hit the spot.

Here were treats from The Hot Lollies. $8 each or 6 pack for $42. They looked tempting but when I tried a sample it was slightly too sweet for me. I prefer the other treats that I got.

Here were cookies from Mad Batter Bakers. They didn't give any samples at least not when I was wondering around so I didn't buy any to try. You have to give me a sample before I buy. Well at least all the other vendors were doing it lol.

Here were some caramel apples from Bruce County at $11 each. Wow just for an apple. I personally don't like caramel apples so I didn't buy it but they sure did look adorable. This one here was called Mojito.

To me, there wasn't enough food vendors at the show but I heard the Christmas show has way more vendors to browse through. I definitely want to check out the Christmas show now. Thanks Jane for getting me in. Looking forward to the next show:)

Cafe Mania

If you want yummy desserts and a good laugh head to Cafe Mania but do be careful of what you say since Peter might be hovering around and eavesdropping in on your conversation (just kidding).

Me and my sister-in-law wanted desserts (well mostly me hehe) since we just finished dinner at Khao San Road.

It was martini Wednesdays at Cafe Mania where the martinis were $6. My sister-in-law got the dirty martini. Peter, the host/crepe flavor creator, was joking around and had to ask her how dirty she liked it. (He just couldn't resist).

While contemplating on what to order we kept hearing a few whispers coming from behind the bar telling us to order the heaven crepe, one of Peter's own creation which wasn't displayed on the menu.

We finally gave in and ordered a waffle and Peter's crepe.

Here is Peter's sweet concoction with goat cheese, strawberries, walnuts, honey and I think one other ingredient I don't quite remember maybe whip cream or something. It tasted funky at first which came from the pungent goat cheese but after a few more bites it got better and better as all the flavors mingled around together. It was actually really tasty. We were skeptical at first but he proved us wrong. It was indeed heavenly. Great job Peter:)

Here is the waffle called Mania's Darling. When it arrived to our table we actually stopped mid-sentence just to say oooo and admire the pretty work of art. It included freshly cut apple slices which was arranged into a flower-like shape, crunchy walnut pieces, one scoop of vanilla ice cream positioned right in the centre of the flower, swirls of caramel fudge and a light dust of cinnamon. It was scrumptious. I normally dislike sour apples however, the balance of tartness and sweetness actually complimented each other very well.

After inhaling our food we just sat and chatted for a while. Peter would join us here and there when he was either free or he just wanted to bud into our conversation. At one point when there were no patrons around he sat and chatted with us for a while. We discovered that he had a tattoo of an Asian character on his arm. When we asked what it meant he said it meant secret or shadow of something. (Sorry kinda fuzzy on the details here). I just wanted to know what was his "secret" since he had a tattoo of it lol. He was tight-lipped but then customers were piling in so he had an excuse to leave.

Later on Peter brought over a crepe to our table. We were confused for a sec since we were certain we didn't order anything else. He said he wanted us to try another one of his new creation. This one had strawberries, chocolate, dusting of powdered sugar and something else which I'm sure I am missing. This was another delight. Thanks Peter for letting us sample another one of your creations. You can call me over anytime to taste test your sweet discoveries.

He even gave us some pink drink which tasted kinda like sex on the beach. Wow 2 freebies in 1 night. I like it:)

Here Peter tried to make a crepe for me but failed miserably. Well he got points for trying at least. It was the other server who was better at making the crepes. Think he's just there to look pretty hehe. (Just joking). Peter is great at working the crowds. It really makes the atmosphere a pleasant and relaxing environment where you feel like you are just hanging at home with some friends.

The cafe was a great place to hang out and we had a lot of good laughs. Time just flew by. It sucked that it was a weeknight otherwise we would have stayed longer.

Thanks Peter for an awesome experience and letting us sample your crepe creations..
