Last time I went to Dlish, there was only ONE cupcake left.

I still remember it clearly as if it just happened yesterday. Yes I'm pretty serious when it comes to my cupcakes, it's serious stuff (j/k or am I?).

It was 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, an hour before they closed, luckily me and my friend stepped in a few seconds earlier before the next people because there was only one cupcake left on the shelf. We bought it and sat by the window to eat. It was kinda mean watching people walk in only to be disappointed yet seeing us eat our cupcake hehe.

Short & Sweet Cupcakes

Short & Sweet Cupcakes is a hidden store along a side street off of Avenue Road. There is hardly any parking available but do be warn NEVER PARK in the driveway of the animal clinic right next to it otherwise the owner will FREAK OUT on you.

I was there literally 2 minutes. I went in and grabbed my cupcakes quickly and ran back out. She yelled at me for parking in her driveway. I get that it's her space but come on I wasn't even parked for more than a couple minutes.

Sorry just had to point that out now back to the cupcakes.

With its hot pink and white color scheme, this little shop is adorable. Once you enter you can't help but giggle like a schoolgirl when you see all the pretty cupcakes on display.

Prairie Girl Bakery

After constantly seeing numerous tweets I was anxious to try the cupcakes at Prairie Girl Bakery.

Since I was having dinner downtown I decided to make a quick stop at the cupcake shoppe. I arrived around a quarter after five and was shocked to see that there was only 3 flavors available and very few cupcakes left on the shelf.

I grabbed the remaining chocolate vanilla cupcake, 1 vanilla coconut and 2 red velvet cupcakes. I also got 2 mini red velvet cupcakes since well they were mini so it just looked cute.

The red velvet was divine. Moist, fluffy and full of flavor.

I definitely have to return and try out the remaining flavors. But next time I will go earlier or at least call ahead and see if they can save some cupcakes for me.

OMG Baked Goodness

Seriously O-M-G!!!

I got off work early today so I had some time to kill before meeting up with some foodie friends for dinner.

I decided to check out OMG Baked Goodness since it was nearby. It was featured on the tv show "Toronto Dining" and I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time since I seen that episode. Finally I was in the area so I made my visit.

I love the pretty artwork on the walls it really gave it a nice warm feeling to the place. There is a huge open space behind the counter and some machinery near the far end of the wall. Guess that is where all the OMG baked goodness comes from since everything is prepared fresh daily.

Since the place was empty I took my sweet time taking pictures. Kind of disappointed with a few pictures since it turned out a bit blurry. Oh well I tried.

Here are some huge double chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies.

Here are spicy ginger and cinnamon chocolate chip cookies. I bought one cinnamon cookie. I took a bite and it was delicious. Full of cinnamon flavor and yummy chocolate goodness in between.

Here is their infamous vegan chocolate cupcake that I've heard so much about on twitter as well as seen on the show.

I bought the mini versions of the cupcakes. It was pretty darn delicious. Light, airy and decadently mmm mmm good. Wished I gotten the regular sized cupcakes the minis were just a tease. I never had vegan cupcakes before and I have to say I loved it. Think I want to try more vegan food now lol.

I also bought the dulce de leche cheesecake. I haven't tried it yet since I'm so stuffed from dinner but will try it tomorrow.

I think these are scones and some tart or pie. Sorry I don't really remember too busy snapping photos.

Here are hazelnut meringue with chocolate ganache filling in the centre. I purchased this as well and will try it tomorrow.

Here are pumpkin cranberry sticky toffee puddings.

Here are lemon poppyseed angel cakes with citrus glaze.

Here are flourless chocolate tortes which I was considering on buying but ended up choosing the cheesecake instead since the server told me it was one of the bestsellers. Hope I made the right choice.

Here are sweet beet and cream pies and maple syrup butter tarts.

Here are walnut brownies and one last smores brownie.

Here are stuffed focaccias, feta and spinach turnovers and roasted vegetable and cheese turnovers.

Here is their fresh and very humongous focaccia bread.

Everything looked so decadent and mouthwatering I'm surprised I walked out with only a few items. Then again I didn't really have that much money on me lol hence the small purchase. So far I only ate the cupcakes and they were OMG goooooooood. I definitely have to return again and this time I will not hold back.

Cake Balls

OH-MY-GOD!!!

For the Love of Cake now sells cake balls. It is un-freakin-believable.

They are pieces of cake covered in chocolate. At first glance I thought it was truffles but after discovering it was filled with cake in the centre I simply had to try one out. I sampled the grasshopper flavor and it was fantastic. A burst of chocolatey mint flavor with a moist creamy chocolate cake in the middle. It was so smooth and creamy that I couldn't even tell it was cake.

My friend tried the red velvet cake ball and she loved it as well.

Of course we couldn't help ourselves we split a cupcake as well. We got the cupcake flavor of the month which was chocolate cake with banana and peanut butter. Utterly delicious:)

Novello Desserts

Upon entering Novello Desserts, me and my girlfriend were just standing there staring in awe salivating at all the goodies on display.

After much deliberation we decided to purchase the gingerbread cookie, some hazelnut pastry, cannoli with vanilla filling and carrot cupcake.

My favorite was the cannoli. My friend tried to break it in half and well didn't succeed. It was hilarious as she was breaking the cannoli the powdered sugar flew straight up and it looked like it had snowed all over the table. For a moment we just stared at the after effects and was slightly confused and shocked at what had happened. Note to self. Never split a cannoli again.

The carrot cupcake was cold since it was refrigerated so it wasn't fluffy but it tasted good. I'm pretty sure if it was straight out of the oven it would've tasted even better.

The hazelnut pastry had some sort of hazelnut filling inside as well and it was a delight.

Wish I could say the same for the gingerbread cookie. This I did not like at all. It was dry and had no flavor whatsoever. It was like all the ginger flavor was sucked right out of it and this was the final result, a bland tasteless cookie. It was a huge disappointment.

After we finished our first round of treats we couldn't help ourselves we wanted gelato as well. Especially since we were seated right next to the counter. It was just staring at us in the face and taunting us. We got the hazelnut gelato and another cannoli but this time with ricotta filling since our server told us it was the most popular cannoli. We ate the gelato first since we didn't want it to melt. It was creamy and full of nutty flavor. So good. The cannoli was good as well although since we had the gelato first I think it kinda ruined our palette a bit. I couldn't really taste the ricotta filling at all. Think I was all sweetened out from everything.

Everything is freshly prepared at the back of the store. They even serve some sandwiches, pasta, and some other food as well.

The Designer Cookie

Prada, and Dolce, and Yves, oh my!

I am not referring to the top brand fashion houses here but rather the baked goods at The Designer Cookie.

This cute little pink & white boutique looks like a perfect place for a little tea party.

Here you can create your own flavors for either cupcakes or cookies and within minutes it is baked fresh right before your eyes.

If you are indecisive like me then you can choose the cupcakes that have been freshly prepared on that day. The flavors will vary each day but nevertheless, still tasty and also they have cute lil designer names such as Chewy Vuitton, Mocha Blahnik, Donna Carrot, etc.

Here I have is Jean Paul Brule which is caramel cake with toasted buttercream, topped with toffee sprinkles, Christian Dioreo which is chocolate cake with oreo buttercream frosting, topped with an oreo cookie, Miu Miu maple which is apple cinnamon cake with maple buttercream frosting topped with pecans and finally, the classic red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

I only ate the red velvet so far and I was sweetened out. The cake itself was dense and wasn't as moist as what I would've expected. I think the concept is unique where you can create your own flavors but taste wise I just don't think it was spectacular.

Life is Sweet

I bought a voucher from Livingsocial to spend at Life is Sweet. $15 for $30 worth to spend at the shop.

I have been to this place on 2 separate occasions so far and both I had different experiences.

My very first time there was on a Saturday afternoon. My friend and I had a taping to attend to but since it was along the way we decided to make a "quick" stop by the cupcake shop since I rarely travel to the Beaches area. Let's just say it wasn't as quick as I had hope it would be.

Since my friend used to live in the area I assumed she would be familiar with the streets so instead of trusting my google map I relied on her to provide me with directions.

Boy, that was the wrong move.

The shop was located on Queen Street East close to Victoria Park.

We were heading east on Queen until we past Woodbine then my friend noted that Victoria Park should be coming up next.

I assumed it wasn't far away so decided to look for parking. It was such a pain looking for parking. Every side street was lined up with cars. Finally ended up parking along a side street about a 10 minute walk back to Queen Street.

Once we reached Queen Street I noticed that the store numbers were in the 2000s. The address for the cupcake place is 2328 Queen Street East. We were about 300 stores away.

So we decided to walk since it was tough already just searching for parking.

Another bad decision made.

It took us about 20 minutes to walk to the store. On a normal day where we don't have any other plans it would have been fine but on a day where we have a show to attend to not the best move.

When we finally arrived at Life is Sweet our mood was up again at the sight of all the sugary confections.

We ordered one of everything but sadly one of the flavors was not available. The person who served us told us it would be ready in an hour if we really wanted that item, but I complained that we had a show to go to and it was a far walk from our car due to somebody's sense of direction.

The lady was extremely nice and ended up giving us some free cupcakes just for our troubles.

In total we got 8 regular cupcakes and 15 mini cupcakes. The value of the voucher was $30 (but we paid $15) so I believed the total should have came to about $38 but she was kind enough not to charge us for the difference. She was very friendly and helpful that it definitely made me want to return again even though I live all the way up north.

On our second trip however, the person who helped us wasn't as friendly as the other server we had. First we had to ask what flavors they had and she appeared a bit irritated by our question. She didn't smile as much like the other person nor was she helpful at all. This time around we ordered 2 dozen mini cupcakes asking for two of each cupcake flavor. When we got home we realized that she didn't grab what we had asked for. We were missing a few flavors. We also ordered a shortbread cookie with apricot filling, another filled with raspberry filling and a cheddar cheese scone. All 3 were yummy. Wished I got more of it.

Aside from the differing customer service, the cupcakes were delicious. My favorite was the chocolate mint. My friend's favorite was the Earl Grey tea with some sort of orange frosting. My other friend she favored the butterscotch over the rest. The cake itself was moist and delightful but I found the flavor derived mostly from the frosting. Together in one bite it was divine.

If you're ever in the Beaches area definitely stop by this delectable shop and it will surely sweeten your day:)
