Sunset Grill

We only ordered 2 dishes and this is what we got. OMG un-freakin-believable!!!

We were starving as usual so Sand recommended we go try out Sunset Grill. He's been there a few times and he loves the omelette there so of course we had to order that.

Friendly House

It is indeed a Friendly House here.

At the corner of Yonge and Drewry lies a little restaurant where you can go in anytime for either breakfast, a burger or even souvlaki whatever you feel for all around the clock.

Patachou

I wanted to grab a sandwich at Black Camel but the one that I wanted wouldn't be ready till another 20 minutes so I decided to head to Patachou since it was close by and it was on my list to try.

Here was the complimentary bread basket. I hate the balls of butter because it's too difficult to spread onto the bread. I like the whipped butter instead so much easier to put on.

I got the tourtiere. The meat pie was filled with a whole load of beef and pork. It was delicious and very filling. I actually didn't finish this dish since there was just too much meat for me but I did finish the pastry portion of it. It was flaky good.

I just had to try the chocolate almond croissant since it looked so yummy. Unfortunately, I could not taste the almond flavor at all. Chocolate yes but almond flavor no where to be found. Also it wasn't as fluffy as the other places that I've had.

The service at Patachou was courteous and quick. What I also found great about the place was that the tables with the stools had a hook where you can hang either your bag or umbrella. It was very convenient for those of us girls with our big handbags which practically takes up half of our seat leaving us to either sit on the edge of the seat or place the bag on top of our laps. Very good concept and bag-friendly for us ladies.

On my next trip I want to try their desserts or even their macarons. Can't believe I didn't buy any to begin with but guess I've been eating too much so I was all macaroned-out.

Loui's Kouzina

Definitely a hidden gem in the town of Markham.

If you want a home cooked Greek meal then head over to Loui's Kouzina.

It's a cozy little restaurant located in the plaza at Woodbine and 16th. The place is filled with pictures of Greece hanging on the walls and there's an open kitchen at the back of the restaurant where you can see the cook prepare the dishes.

Me and my friend wanted something from the breakfast menu as well as an item from the lunch menu so we got the best of both worlds and ordered one from each menu.

For out starter we couldn't decide between the spanakopita or whether to try something new. Our waitress told us everything on the menu was homemade including the dips. The only exception was the spinach pie. Upon hearing that we decided to opt for the biftekia which is grilled beef balls. It was a good choice. Although at first glance it looked like 4 burnt black balls nonetheless, it did not taste scorched at all. It was juicy and savory. I never tasted meat balls that flavorful before. It was a hit.

Next is the moussaka. This was my very first time trying it and it was absolutely delicious. It had crazy layers of texture and flavor comprised from potato, eggplant, zucchini and ground beef all topped with bechamel sauce and served with a side of Greek salad. It tasted light despite the look of it and yet hearty and comforting at the same time. I will certainly be remembering the word moussaka from now on.

From the breakfast menu we chose the french toast. It was a great way to end off the meal. It was pretty much our dessert. At first it just looked like regular toasted bread but once again looks are deceiving. This was yummy.

I definitely have to return to try out the remaining items. You can feel the passion and love put into the food. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable on all the food items. Excellent quality, generous portions and great service. All in all a perfect place for an authentic Greek dining experience. OPA!!!

Mars Diner

Yesterday I went to go watch the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Either I'm a real chicken or I just haven't watched any movie for a while but for a kids movie I found some parts to be scary especially the part where Dumbledore's ghost comes zooming out of nowhere. I almost jumped out of my seat.

After the movie I was hungry since I haven't ate anything yet all morning so me and my cousin searched for a place to grab a bite.

We were at the theatre at Yonge and Eglinton so luckily there were numerous options to choose from. I saw a sign that said all day breakfast so we decided to head to Mars Diner.

It was a cozy little diner. It looked like it was from the late 50s with its red colored seating and metal counters. All that was missing were waitresses on rollerblades dressed in those poofy poodle dresses. I would love to wear one of those poodle skirts for fun.

I was craving for breakfast so I decided to order the egg benedict with a side of sweet potato fries and a side of griddle cake. At first I didn't know what a griddle cake was but when I asked it apparently was another term for pancake. My sweet potato fries were crispy just the way I liked it and I didn't even had to tell them to make it that way. My benedict was delicious especially the peameal bacon. Mmmmmm bacon. However, as for my griddle cake I cannot say the same. It was dry. I only took one bite and just left it. I didn't even bother to complain since I was already stuffed from the benny so didn't want to get another order of pancake.

My cousin ordered the Mars chicken wrap. I tried a piece of her chicken since the waiter had kept emphasizing that almost everything on the menu was homemade. It was scrumptious. I definitely would order that on my next trip.

On a side note, the diner is open for 24 hours on weekends. Wished there were more places like that close to my area. The only ones I can think of are Asian places which I don't mind but would prefer a variety of choices of cuisine instead of just one.

Dinner at Steve's

Since the brunch was a hit the first time we were there, me and my boyfriend decided to try out the dinner menu at Steve's Restaurant.

Once again a home run.

My boyfriend got the special which was a 16oz T-bone steak while I ordered the almond crusted sole.

It definitely hit the spot. The steak was full of flavor and well seasoned. My fish was well prepared. Also my sweet potato fries were crispy just the way I liked it.

Great food and generous portions all at a great price.

Boom??? More like a Bust

I finally got my boyfriend to go try out Boom Breakfast today. He absolutely hates driving midtown since parking is such a pain. When we arrived along Eglinton at 10 in the morning surprisingly we still couldn't find street parking anywhere. Drove around in circles before we finally found a spot. Not a good start so far along with the fact that it was pouring rain.

Once seated I was overwhelmed with the menu. There were so many options I didn't know what to choose. Well I decided to go for the buttermilk pancakes since that was what I was craving for along with a side of peameal bacon. My boyfriend got the regular eggs and peameal bacon combo.

I also ordered the honey bee smoothie which consisted of non-fat yogurt, blueberries, banana and honey. It was a bit watered down for me. I wished they added more fruits or even more honey for that matter. Another disappointment here.

When our food finally arrived, boy oh boy, another disappointment there. My boyfriend's dish had only 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and a side of fries and toast. His eggs were undercooked. How can you go wrong with eggs? The most simplest item yet they couldn't even prepare it correctly. Also he thinks the fries tasted like McCain frozen fries. They were baked and the texture was identical to the frozen item that you would find in the freezer aisle at a grocery store. Wow!!! Can't believe we drove all the way here for some frozen fries. His dish costed $8.49 and he got undercooked eggs, only 2 pieces of bacon, and some frozen fries. Definitely hating me now for dragging him out in the rain on a Sunday morning for substandard food. He wasn't even full.

My dish was just as disappointing as well. I got 2 pancakes and 2 pieces of bacon. The bacon was tasty but just wasn't enough. As for my pancakes, it was an epic fail. It was extremely doughy where it almost got lodged in my throat. I had to gulp down my smoothie just so I wouldn't require a heimlich maneuver.

We left around 11 or so and there was a huge lineup. I wondered if it was their first time just like me or whether they were regulars. I just don't understand if they can't cook the most basic food items right how can they even cook the other items such as the benny and omelette.

The food is way overpriced and poorly prepared. My boyfriend would have done a better job cooking it himself.

After this experience don't think my boyfriend will be letting me choose a breakfast joint again in the near future. Guess I should go buy a box of eggs and some Aunt Jemima pancake mix if I want to eat breakfast again.

Steve's Restaurant

This morning I was craving for an egg benedict and egg benedict I got.

I drove to Steve's Restaurant and ordered a smoked salmon benedict while my boyfriend got the regular egg benedict with peameal bacon.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon the place was bustling with people. Luckily we arrived around 1 or so which is the perfect time as people were finishing up their last morsel of food.

The benedict was scrumptious. The hollandaise sauce was extremely rich and very heavy. Not great for those who are calorie counters. After finishing the food I just did not want to move at all. Niggeritis was definitely kicking in.

This is my place for now for a benedict uptown until I find another joint.
